World School Chess Championships
Rhodes, Greece / 13-23 April 2023

1. Invitation

This is the official invitation to all member national federations of FIDE and eligible players to participate in
the World School Chess Championships 2023 (categories for boys/open and girls under 7, 9, 11, 13, 15
and 17 years old). The championships will be held in Rhodes, Greece from 13 to 23 April 2023 under the
auspices of the World Chess Federation (FIDE) and Prefecture of South Aegean.

2. Playing Venue

The event will be held in the 5-star “Rodos Palace” conference resort.

4. Technical Regulations

4.1. FIDE rated Swiss system will be used with 9 rounds played. The Championships shall be
governed by the General Regulations for FIDE Competitions. There shall be 6 categories: Under
07, Under 09, Under 11, Under 13, Under 15 and Under 17 with separate events for Boys/Open and
Girls (in total 12 championships). Entitled to participate in each category are:

Under 07: Players born on or after 1 January 2016,
Under 09: Players born on or after 1 January 2014,
Under 11: Players born on or after 1 January 2012,
Under 13: Players born on or after 1 January 2010,
Under 15: Players born on or after 1 January 2008,
Under 17: Players born on or after 1 January 2006.

4.2. Each National Federation can register any number of players that meet the age requirements of
each section. FIDE-affiliated organizations, as approved by the FIDE Council, also have the right to
register players. FIDE endorsed Chess Academies also have the right to register players through
their respective National Chess Federation with copy to Trainers Commission for endorsement.
4.3 Players with personal rights of qualification, according to FIDE handbook D.04.08 article 4, are
entitled to free board and lodging for 10 nights sharing a double room.
4.4 Time control is 90 minutes plus 30 seconds increment from move one.
4.5 Default time is 15 minutes. Any player who arrives at the chessboard after the default time shall lose
the game unless the arbiter decides otherwise.
4.6 The final ranking order of the players is determined by the number of points scored. If two or more
players are tied for the first place or for any prize, the tie shall be broken in the following order:

a. Direct Encounter points (applies only if all tied players have played each other),
b. Buchholz Cut 1,
c. Buchholz,
d. Greater Number of Wins with Black Pieces,
e. Greater Number of Wins.

5. Prizes, Titles & Certificates

5.1. The Organizer shall award trophies and medals to the players taking the first three places in each
category. Trophies for 1st place and medals are awarded after applying tie-breaks.
5.2 The Direct titles shall be awarded according to the conditions in the FIDE to regulations below.

5.3. Certificates of Participation shall be given to all players.

6. Appeals procedure and Appeals Committee

6.1. The Appeals Committee shall be 3 persons, one of whom may be the FIDE Technical Delegate.
Two additional reserve members will be appointed at the Technical Meeting as no member shall
take part in a decision affecting a player of his own federation.
6.2. A protest Arbiters decisions must be submitted in written form to the Chairman of the Appeals
Committee within one hour after the completion of the respective game. The protest must be
accompanied with the sum of 200 €, as a deposit. If the appeal is granted, the sum shall be
returned immediately. If the appeal is refused, the deposit is forfeited to FIDE. The Appeals
Committee may also decide to refund the fee if it considers the appeal was not frivolous. The
decisions of the Appeals Committee are final.
6.3. The decision of the Appeals Committee is final, binding and takes effect immediately.

7. Registration – Accommodation

7.1. All Participants are obliged to stay in official hotels and bookings must be done only through the
organizers.
7.2 Registration — Accommodation package (10 nights)

Registration — Accommodation package includes (per person):
• Accommodation for 10 nights.
• Breakfast, lunch, and dinner,
• Soft Drinks/Beer/Wine/Potable Water during meals in Restaurant (semi/All Inclusive).
• Transportation from and to Rhodes airport on 13th and 23rd April.
• All fees including registrations fees.
• All taxes (including VAT, Municipality Tax and Tourism Tax).

Price in single room: 1000 euros per person Price in double room: 790 euros per person
Price in triple room: 740 per person
Price in 4 beds room (family suite)
700 euros per person
Extra nights can be requested in advance and, upon availability, can be possible at a proportional cost:
Price per night in a single room: 86 euros per person
Price per night in a double room: 66 euros per person
Price per night in a triple room: 60 euros per person
Price per night in a 4 beds room: 56 euros per person
Registration fee: 100 euros per person (includes accreditation & airport transfer on 13 and 23 April) April).
FIDE entry fee: 40 euros
7.3 The deadline for registrations and bookings is the Monday 20th February 2023, together with a 30%
deposit payment for the selected registration-accommodation package.
Payments shall be done after an invoice will be issued from the O.C. official email.

8. Fees

FIDE and Registration fees are already included in the registration package of article (7) and the FIDE fee
will be paid directly by the Organizer to FIDE.

9. Travel Details

Participants should book their flights to Rhodes International Airport (RHO). The bus transportation from
and to Rhodes International Airport is included in the organization package for all participants on the arrival
day (13th April 2023) and the departure day (23rd April 2023). Transportation from the organizers in other
dates are possible upon request with an extra charge.
10. Covid-19 and Health Protocol
The official information regarding travel regulations to Greece, is published at: https://travel.gov.gr. The
organizers and the participants should also comply with all the health and testing regulations applied by
Greek Public Authorities.

11. Visa information

Any federation members, players and accompanying persons who need a visa to enter Greece, are
requested to contact the Organizer before the 13th of February 2023. The organizer will provide invitations
for visas only after the necessary payments are wired, as described in article (7) above. Schengen visas
are valid in Greece. Τhe birthdate of each player must be given and must correspond with the birthdate
given in his passport or other travel document. All travel documents must also be submitted at least 2
months before the events starts, if visas are required. The Organiser shall not be responsible for late
submission and application for visas.
