Reykjavik Open 2025
The Reykjavik Open 2025 will be held from April 9th till April 15th. These dates are final! We will once again play in the magnificent Harpa Conference Hall at the heart of downtown Reykjavik.
Once again 9 rounds will be played and the timecontrol 90+30 with 30 secounds added at move 40. Byes will be possible up to and including the 7th round.

FIDE norms are possible.
Rate of play: 90 min for 40 moves + 30 minutes after move 40. Increment of 30 sec. for every move starting from move one.
FIDE rules apply. We will enforce Article 6.7.1 in the following manner: Any player who arrives at the chessboard after the default time – 30 minutes – shall lose the game unless the arbiter decides otherwise
Electronic device/mobile phones (Articles 11.3.2.1,2,3): During a game, a player is forbidden to have a mobile phone, electronic means of communication, or any device capable of suggesting chess moves on their person in the playing venue. However, such devices can be stored in a player’s bag, as long as the device is completely switched off. A player is forbidden to carry a bag holding such a device, without permission of the arbiter. If it is evident that a player has such a device on their person in the playing venue, the player shall lose the game. The opponent shall win.
Players are not allowed to eat at the chessboard
Accompanying persons can take photographs in the playing hall for the first 10 minutes of the game, otherwise, mobile phones are strictly prohibited in the playing hall.

4. Bye-rules
Players are allowed three half-point byes in rounds 1-7, provided they give adequate notice and sign the bye-request paper by the arbiters’ table.
Please note that to take a bye in the 1st round you need to confirm your participation with pre-payment.
5. Data Protection
In compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR, 2016/679), the organizing committee of the Reykjavik Open Chess tournament hereby declares the following: The organizing committee will manage personal data of the players and compile the competition results. These results will be made publicly available. The tournament will utilize the Swiss-Manager program, and the results will be published online via chess-results.com and rating calculation platforms. Furthermore, the results may be shared on other websites or through various media outlets. Photographs of players may be taken during the tournament. Additionally, players can expect to be on camera while playing on live DGT boards. By participating in the competition, players acknowledge and agree to these conditions.
