Invitation to the Press Conference: Freestyle Chess Grand Slam 2025 in Weissenhaus
Hamburg, January 28, 2025. The elite of the chess world is gathering on Germany’s Baltic Sea coast: The Freestyle Chess Grand Slam 2025 kicks off from February 7 to 14 at the prestigious Weissenhaus Private Nature Luxury Resort in Schleswig-Holstein.
The event features some of the biggest stars in chess, including:
• Magnus Carlsen (Norway), the dominant world number one for the past decade and a half
• Dommaraju Gukesh (India), the newly crowned 18-year-old World Champion and current world number 5
• Hikaru Nakamura (USA, #3), Fabiano Caruana (USA, #2), Alireza Firouzja (France, #7), and other top players, including Vincent Keymer (Germany, #20).
The tournament format promises excitement: In the Freestyle Chess mode, the back row pieces are randomly arranged while pawns are placed as in classical chess. This randomness makes the game more unpredictable and thrilling for players and spectators alike. The prize pool is an impressive $750,000.
The event in Weissenhaus marks the beginning of a global tournament series, with subsequent events in Paris, New York, Delhi, and Cape Town.
